Breaking Free: I’m Tempted
Genesis 39:1-10

1 Now Joseph had been brought down to Egypt, and Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh, the captain of the guard, an Egyptian, had bought him from the Ishmaelites who had brought him down there. 2 The Lord was with Joseph, and he became a successful man, and he was in the house of his Egyptian master.3 His master saw that the Lord was with him and that the Lord caused all that he did to succeed in his hands. 4 So Joseph found favor in his sight and attended him, and he made him overseer of his house and put him in charge of all that he had. 5 From the time that he made him overseer in his house and over all that he had, the Lord blessed the Egyptian's house for Joseph's sake; the blessing of the Lord was on all that he had, in house and field. 6 So he left all that he had in Joseph's charge, and because of him he had no concern about anything but the food he ate. Now Joseph was handsome in form and appearance. 7 And after a time his master's wife cast her eyes on Joseph and said, “Lie with me.” 8 But he refused and said to his master's wife, “Behold, because of me my master has no concern about anything in the house, and he has put everything that he has in my charge. 9 He is not greater in this house than I am, nor has he kept back anything from me except you, because you are his wife. How then can I do this great wickedness and sin against God?” 10 And as she spoke to Joseph day after day, he would not listen to her, to lie beside her or to be with her.

Breaking Free: I’m Tempted
Genesis 39:1-10

How were you tempted this week? 

What do you know about the Bible? That's a strategic question. If you're going to handle temptation God's way, you need to know the Word. Take a few moments now and read Matthew 4:1-11. After reading the biblical text, answer the following five questions:   

1. Who is the source of temptation? 

2. Is it a sin to be tempted? 

3. When does the enemy often tempt God's children?

4. What do you know about the enemy and how he works?   

5. How did Jesus handle temptation?    

Read about Joseph's life in Genesis 39:1-10. He didn't have to look for temptation. The enemy found him. Joseph was a young man with a heart for the Lord. He confessed that he didn't want to sin against God. Holiness was present in his life and decisions. Are you living aware of God's presence? Is holiness a priority for you in the Christian life? 

As you study God's Word, focus on the following three practical statements:

1. RECOGNIZE the Threat Behind Temptation. You're not to play around with snakes or temptation. As you identify the source of temptation (Satan), you need to know his intention. Satan isn't your friend. His goal is to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10). He wants to devour your life (1 Peter 5:8). Share a time when the enemy sought to destroy your life, marriage, family, or church. 

2. RESPOND to Temptation God's Way. Life throws many curve balls at you. You can respond God's way or the world's way. Why do many individuals sacrifice their future for the pleasure of the moment? Why do many people in ministry wreck their lives, marriages, and families? It's because they responded to temptation the world's way, not God's way. What is God's way?  

3. RESIST the Temptation to Clutter the Closet. Do you like clutter? Rather than deal with issues, many people stuff them in the closets of their lives. That gets messy over time. How can you get rid of the clutter in your life? How did Joseph deal with the clutter in his life? Take a few moments and get practical. How can you declutter your life? This opens the door for you to "break free." 

This message applies to people of all ages. When you wake up every morning, temptation is ready to meet you face-to-face. You can be enslaved, or you can "break free." God wants you to live free (John 8:32, 36).

Many times throughout history, we have seen the people of God rise up and turn back to Him with passion and fervor for their faith in times of great revival. What is revival? It isn’t goosebumps or an emotional high. Revival is the spiritual awakening of God’s people to their true nature and purpose. Revival is mainly for God’s people, but those who do not know Christ also benefit because Christians actually get serious about their faith. Has the time come for another great revival? Will your generation lead the way? Join us for FUGE Camps 2024 as we look at four stories in the Bible of great change and revival that resulted in generational impact and be challenged to make a difference for generations to come.

• Current 2024 Medical Release Forms are required to attend.

We are excited to be returning to Crossings Kids Camp at Jonathan Creek for our 6th year!

Crossings Kids Camp is at Jonathan Creek located in Hardin, KY (just an hour and fifteen minutes away). Kids will experience Christ-centered worship, solid Gospel teaching, intentional small group times, exciting water sports, climbing, zip lines and more! MEMBERSHIP AND GIVING TOOLS

Fellowship, Worship and Discipleship are fundamental to an obedient life in Christ. First Baptist Church maintains several tools to help us stay connected, share and offer the sacrifice of praise, and grow together. Scroll to the bottom of the home page at fbct.org and click on "app" to see options for adding these tools to your phone or other device. You can use these tools to stay connected to your discipleship group, contact the church, watch past worship services and sermons, as well as support the FBC financially as the Lord directs for you and your family. There are even instructions for how to access these tools using your web browser.

Using these apps, updating your profile information to share with the church is easy. When changes occur in your family life such as a move to a new home, change in email address, etc. you can update your information to be sure that our communication with you is efficient. You can even add a picture to make it easier for your church family to put a name with a face!

Information about any groups that might be of interest to you, such as Connect Groups, teams, committees, etc will be available as well.  Group Leaders can use the tools to take attendance online and access other features.  You can contact the church through the app, read messages from group members/leaders and browse the church directory.
